I bought a Logitech Z906 speaker set at Fry's for my 2008 24" iMac, which has the following specs:
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (1066MHz FSB)
4 GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 2600 Pro 256MB
320GB 7200 RPM HD
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
The speaker system is connected to my computer via a single TOSLINK cable with a mini-TOSLINK adaptor in my computer's headphone jack. Currently, it only outputs 2.1 audio to my speakers, which then convert it to 3D. However, I need full 5.1 audio in order to do some audio design and software testing in Unity3D (which added 5.1 sound in Unity 3). If I try to configure my audio in Audio MIDI Setup.app, it only shows the following options:
If I choose Encoded Digital Audio and click on Configure Speakers, it won't let me select 5.1 audio output in the drop-down menu after I select multichannel output. Moreover, attempting to adjust my audio MIDI settings causes my speakers to not play any audio unless I change my settings back to 2ch-24 bit or so, sometimes requiring a reboot. What should I do?
