The right speaker on macbook pro from early 2008 isn't working anymore. At first I had a pair of earphones and my right earbud stopped working; i thought it was the earphones because i tried another set of earphones and the right earpiece wouldn't work either, so then i tried playing music through the speakers and then i noticed the right speakers don't play music.

So next, i restarted my computer and tried the earphones again; and both earpieces worked; however when i tried playing it through the speakers, the right speaker still won't play.

Any ideas?

Open the "Sound" panel in System Preferences.
Click the "Output" tab. Is Balance set in the middle?

If the issue isn't software...well, that means it's probably hardware.

The balance is one of those "doh!" things that happens often. I am forever sliding stuff around fumbled fingered and would be the first thing I would check too.
