just an update..... put the ram in and when I turn mac on nothing more than beeping happens, does that mean the ram I received is faulty?

Unless it is not correctly seated, you really have to push hard to get the RAM in, it is probably faulty RAM. You could check via alternating the two modules and using one alone.

yeh I checked after contacting the seller and there is one faulty ram stick so just waiting to hear back from them.

seems a reasonable enough guy, hopefully he'll swap it out
