For some reason (in both leopard and now in snow leopard), my MBP has a weird behavior, where after you disconnect speakers plugged into the headphone jack (I have HK SoundsticksII), it'll default to digital out.

So, say I'm listening to music on Pandora, with my speakers plugged in. Then, I move my laptop across the house to check email while watching TV. When I unplug the speakers, a red light will illuminate out of the headphone jack hole. The volume functions are completely greyed out. The only fix is plugging the speakers back in and listening to music through them, or restarting.

Otherwise, I have no onboard sound (the built in speakers wont work unless you restart)

Ideas???

The red light means the optical audio connection is being turned on.
