Early 2009 24" iMac SSD Upgrade

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a samsung 840 Evo 500Gb SSD. i swapped out with the original HDD and formatted it in disk utility then proceeded to put an OS on it. When doing so (i tried putting Mountain Lion on it as well as Lion) it seemed to be working until at the end of the first part of installation when the iMac restarted it was unable to boot to the SSD and i got the File folder with a question mark indicative of a hard drive issue. If anyone who has maybe run into a similar issue can help i would appreciate it.

I was reading some other posts that say the firmware on the ssd need upgrading and that there could be an issue with the SATA cable.

Can you boot from the DVD drive or did you make a USB install disk you can boot from?
If you have the "old" disk you can put it in a USB case and boot from it.

Then try to install the firmware update, format the SSD and install.

I replaced the DVD drive with a data doubler and a OWC SSD - worked fine.
