Hello. I have been trying various options to get my data retrieved from a Western digital caviar green external hard drive. I bought the inateck FD1006C w/ UASP docking station but it is not recognized.
I do not know anything about partitions, formatting, etc..

I was hoping there was some kinda code or fix, unless 2009 is just too old, even with Yosemite.

peace

Try opening the "System Information" app in the Utilities folder.

Click on "USB" (on the left).
Do you see "the presence" of the dock on the USB bus?
If so, does it also indicate the presence of the WD drive?

It's possible that even though the drive "spins up" when you put it into the dock and connect the dock to the Mac, that it STILL won't mount on the desktop. Could be a "software failure" -- bad disk drivers or corrupted directory. It also could be a "hardware" failure -- something physically (or perhaps electronically, on the controller board) failed inside.

One more thing to try:
Open Disk Utility.
Does Disk Utility "see" the drive -- even if it won't mount on the desktop?
Does Disk Utility give you the option to re-initialize (erase) it?

DON'T attempt to erase it yet -- you just want to see if that option is there.

It does see it, but can't verify mount etc..

It was not seen by the USB, but was by disk utility
