Early 2009 iMac disc drive problems

I just bought a early 2009 iMac used from a friend and he had wiped the computer clean using the Mac OS X disc. He had forgot to install the apps disc with iLife and when I tried to use it, it spit it out. The iWork disc worked fine but it is in totally perfect condition. The app disc was just barely scuffed up.

I tried a movie DVD and it still spit it out. Putting several music CDs in that were in horrible condition however read fine. So has anyone else had this problem? Is there any kind of solution to this? It worked fine for my friend before he sent it and now it only works with CDs, and the one iWork DVD.

iWork is on a CD.

Sounds like your superdrive is on it's way out.

I'd get yourself a generic external drive (not the Apple one as it requires some modification to .plist files to make it work)

Actually the iWorks disc is on a DVD, it reads it as a DVD when it is put in as well.
