This seems to have started within the last couple of weeks. My iMac appears to be having issues waking up after an extended period of non-usage (like 12-20 hours). I primarily use it as a media server, so it has long periods of time where I don't touch it.
What happens is I press a key on the keyboard to wake it, and the backlight comes on, but nothing is displayed on the screen - it's just black.
I'm having issues keeping iTunes Home Sharing connected as well. To fix it, I have to close and re-open iTunes on my iMac every time I want to stream something.
So what I usually do is sit down in front of my Apple TV, try to stream something, realize it's not working (doesn't see my iMac), go to the iMac (which won't wake up), hard boot it, then login and open iTunes.
I have to do this every night I want to watch something.
I have my hard disk set to never go to sleep, and this hasn't been a problem for me in the past. It just started happening recently. Yosemite is up to date.
