Looking at a logicboard replacement for my early 2011 i7 17" - its got the as-expected GPU failure. Got fan-spin, the bong, charges battery and a backlight. But nothing else - not even keyboard light. Previous owner has obviously tried a reflow, and forgotten to add thermal paste; heatsink was completely dry when I took it to bits. Its probably completely fried the CPU, GPU or both. Reflow certainly didn't work.
17" logic boards are crazy money, but the 15" boards look visually identical (on ebay at least) and are almost half the price for near identical specs. Anyone done a swap of a 15" board into a 17" chassis? (assuming both are early 2011).
