considering upgrading my macbook pro 15" (early 2011) memory - going from 4gb to 8gb ... but, I started searching and found the following:

crucial shows a 16gb kit -
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpa....3GHz Intel Core i7 (15-inch DDR3) Early-2011

but, on the mac site, showing max of 8gb
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270?viewlocale=en_US#link3

* you might have to scroll down as the link doesn't go to the model#
But, it shows max 8gb, 2 ea @ 4gb slots.

can anyone verify if the 16gb does not work? Is 8gb max?

any other brand that might be better or run best with mbp vs crucial?

tia!

2 x 8GB works fine.

Crucial, Corsair and g.skill make good memory. I always read through the reviews on Amazon and newegg before I buy and base my decisions off of that. Normally you can find other Mac owners reporting their experiences.
