Early 2011 GPU

Long story short I think I have a failing GPU the apple loading screen is fuzzy and does not get passed the grey screen after a few tries it sometimes does

I swapped out the dvd drive for a second hard drive years ago would I have to swap the eve drive back in before bring it to Apple ? Since the GPU recall is over and above the warranty would it even matter

I would put it back to stock and not give them any reason to deny it.
Swapping the DVD is definitely not an Apple-sanctioned upgrade.
