Hey gang,
I'm stumped. I cannot for the life of me, get Windows 10 to install on my 2011 Macbook Pro.
I have basically tried everything under the sun, and spent about the last week trying every combination - every trick - every sequence and still come up empty handed.
What I'm down to now is....
1) I've done a clean install of Lion as I originally thought Sierra was creating confusion with my partitions.
2) Sidestepping Bootcamp, I create a FAT partition in Disk Utility
3) Then use gdisk to correct the whole drive and make it GPT
4) I've tried running gdisk before I install, after I install, in the middle of install - all combinations.
Here's where things get tricky. I've tried 2 methods, one with a USB stick, the other with a install DVD.
With the USB stick
1) Boot up the Windows 10 installer
2) When I get to the partition screen - delete the FAT partition and have the installer create a new partition - thus also creating the MBR partition.
3) Everything installs, but at the end I get the error that Windows cannot prepare the disk for the next step of installation. Failed.
With the DVD Install
1) Boot into the Windows 10 installer
2) When I get to the partition screen - I get the error that the partition is GPT and will not work. Yet I've done the gdisk step so I'm stumped.
And there I am. I cannot figure this out. Using USB I can at least get the install to begin - but I think because of my laptop model and installing from the USB it confuses my computer as it's doesn't automatically boot to USB. With the DVD install, I don't know what's up and why it says the disk is GPT when it works for USB.
I've got one more combo left before I throw this thing out the window and stick with Windows 7, and that is to create the new partitions with the USB stick, restart, and load the DVD installer - but I'm not optimistic.
Any ideas?
