Hello there,

It's been quite a while since my last visit to these forums!

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM to the maximum available in the market now, I've read that the maximum the hardware can support is 16gb.. Other websites/reports say it's actually 32gb..

Which is right?

Which brand is recommended? (Amazon link would be great)

Thanks in advance

Hi, in my previous mac, like yours, I was able to install 16 gb 1333 DDR3 ram. I bought samsung ones, cl9 class and never had problems

Some info here - the supported RAM size depends on the CPU variant.

http://guides.macrumors.com/Understanding_Intel_Mac_RAM
http://guides.macrumors.com/Buying_RAM

However, right now there is no one selling 16GB DDR3 204-pin SODIMM RAM (2 x 16GB needed for 32GB), so 16GB is the current limit, even for the 15" with i7 3820QM CPU.

Most people on here have had good results with OWC, Crucial and Corsair.
Other name brands should be good too.

Use the search on the crucial site to find your RAM:
http://www.crucial.com/apple
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B9CFD3B3A5CA7304

So the RAM you need is 2 x 8GB 204-pin SODIMM DDR3-1333 / PC3-10600
Then if you wish, you can search for the same size/type on amazon.com.

Thanks to each and everyone of you for the thorough information!

I'll be ordering 2 of 8gb RAM sticks now, and when the 32gb sticks come out it'll be another story :)
