I got this message today: Service Battery.

Is it normal for the battery to have issues after only a year of use? Here is my battery's info from system profiler:

The "Service Battery" shows when battery health drops below 75% or if other conditions indicate it's time for a replacement. iStat Pro will give you a percentage of battery health remaining.

AppleCare does cover defective batteries. Take it to Apple to have it checked. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
