I've read posts saying you can't upgrading the ram on MacBook Air's, is this true? Or can we upgrade the memory? 4gb is not enough for me needing to switch to 8gb.

No you can't upgrade memory after purchase. It is soldered to logic board.

All mac products hold their values pretty well. Sell your old one and buy a new one you might lose about $100-$200 but its an option.
