Hi,

How are you guys doing?

I hope doing very well : )!!!

I am staying at a friend's house and I forgot my charger.

The computer I am on is an early 2014, 11" MacBook Air.

My friend kindly offers me "a faster charger", an 85W charger.

I am sceptic to use it, because the 11" MBA usually uses a
45W charger, the on it came with.

I wanted to ask you guys, to be on the safe side, if it is
possible for this 11" Macbook Air, from early 2014, to use
an 85W charger.

Thank you in advance, very kind regards!

Using an 85W charger from a MacBook Pro with your MacBook Air (which typically uses a 45W charger) is generally safe, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind:

Apple designs its chargers to be compatible across different models. The MacBook Air will only draw the power it needs, so using a higher wattage charger won't force the MacBook Air to consume more power than it requires.

If your MacBook Air's battery is low, using a higher wattage charger can potentially charge it faster, especially if you're using the laptop while charging.

While the MacBook Air will only draw the power it needs, the 85W charger may generate more heat than the 45W charger. If the charger is not well-ventilated, it could lead to overheating, which can be a concern over long periods of use.

The charger rating is what the charger is capable of delivering, not what will be delivered to the device. A device will only draw as much power as it needs. You could use a 200 watt charger without issue. Use your friend’s charger without concern.

I've been using a MacBook Pro 15" Magsafe1 85 watt charger with a Magsafe1 to Magsafe2 adapter that I got from Apple on a 2014 13" Pro and 2015 13" Air for many years with no problems at all.

The 85 watt gets slightly warm but not much more than that.

All power supplies get warm... when they got “burning hot” is something wrong anyway...
My next shopping will be a 200w charger with multi USB and C ports and a cable c to MagSafe ... then I need only one (brilliant) charger for all!
