early upgrade from BB Bold to iPhone 3GS?

Hey everyone,

I was hoping maybe an AT&T rep (or someone else very knowledgable) was on the forums and could help me with this question. I did an early upgrade for $75 to the Blackberry Bold in November 2008 after my Blackberry Curve got stolen. Now with the release of the 3GS (and everything else I own now being Apple) I want to upgrade to the 3GS.

Can anyone here let me know what the most affordable way would be to upgrade to the 3GS?

I am not an AT&T rep, but I have bought so many phones from them.

What is your current contract?

Family plan? Single line plan?

What is your eligibility date showing on the ATT web site?
 
if you areon ATT dial *639# and wait for the text page. That is what ATT will offer as an upgrade.

Novemeber 2009 you will be able to get the upgrade price, as the message will note.
You can open a new line.

I have a family plan, my BB is my main phone ($50 a month + unlimited data) plus I pay for my mother's phone ($10 a month, no data.)

It's showing a price of $499.99 plus 2 year contract for me online to upgrade :(

The primary line should be eligible for a full upgrade every 12 months.
 
That sounds about right, since I bought a phone last December, the purchase price for the 3GS was 499 for me.

When is your mom's phone due an upgrade?

Perhaps I need to talk to ATT? That has never been the case for me.
 
You can use your mom's upgrade and transfer the data plan to your line when you put your sim card into the iphone.

No. Not without paying a fee. I changed my BB plan to a really small like 20 dollar a month voice plan when I got my iPhone and had to pay $100. Much better than the cancellation fee, though.

How substantial a drop did you do?

I have a question, I dialed that number, and it says my upgrade date is 11/20/10.

Why is it one year and 5 months from the date of my last phone purchase? (June 19th :D)

I didn't have to pay a fee when I did it.

Either that, or ATT conveniently forgot to tell me about it.

If there is a fee on my bill for $100, they will be getting a fight from me.

Like I said, I'm not with AT&T so it may be different for you :)

I just went to an AT&T store and they said there wouldn't be any fee since my BB plan is comparable (I pay for unlimited data and unlimited text.)

I upgraded from a 2G i bought in October of 07...I qualified for the $199/no activation fee upgrade for my 16gb 3GS...now mine says 11-20-10 for me as well. I pay $100 a month...

Sorry, that is the correct price for you, based on your latest upgrade.

No, this is not TRUE for everyone. It is only 12 months for lines that have a MRC that is greater than > $99 per line and only includes the voice rate plan + select data features.

In the US with AT&T there is no FEE, it sounds like this poster is indicating that they paid for the $99 iPhone 3G (8GB).

They are correct there is no $100 fee to change your plan. You will be charged the standard $18 upgrade fee since you will be starting a new two service commitment with AT&T.
