Earphone mash/grill question

Is it normal to have some bronze discoloration in the earphone mash? That grill where you put your ear while talking to ppl? Or does it have to be totally silver? Maybe it's just the OCD speaking?

clean it up with a wood toothpick. Maybe some gunk is stuck in there.

Strange. Mine does not have any discoloration. It's just black.
