Earphones & iPhone

I'm not sure if I am using the attached earphones correctly.

My music plays great through the speaker but when I plug in the earphones, I can't hear anything.

Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tested the earphones in other devices to see if they work there, and have you tried any other earphones in the iphone? That'll help narrow down whether it's hardware or software and where the problem lies.

If the earphones work otherwise I'd suggest restoring the iphone. If that fails bring it to a genius bar and see if you can recreate the issue there.

I have a nice pair of Etymonic earbuds that I have used with an iPod for over a year. They're great. But just like 1.1.1, it seems that Apple decided that it was not going to allow third party anything with their iPhone. The Etymonics will not plug into the iPhone. Also, most headphones are three conductor. The exclusive iPhone (inferior) earbuds are 4 conductor. I know the purpose, but I miss using high quality headphones. Oh well, I still have an iPod. I guess Apple wins again.
