guys - when I put my earpods on my ear, the audio automatically transmits to the earpods. But when I put them on the table and receive a new phone call later on, the audio still transmits to the earpods. I thought it's not supposed to work this way

Thx

EarPods or AirPods? AirPods have sensors to detect whether they are in an ear. EarPods do not. They are normal headphones.

If they are AirPods, they should not take the sound of a call if they are not in an ear.

Got it to work - had a bad setting in accessibility. Guys - I didn't catch any new changes in the new airpods except for the size of the box. Did you catch anything else?

I am not even sure that is a change. When the showed the airforce mat, they mentioned a optional wireless AirPod charging case. My guess is that the new case design is for that, and will be an optional purchase.
