Easiest way to reliably stream video from MBP to (Samsung) Smart TV?

I see that Chromecast can do a desktop stream, but I've read people saying it's not very good. Any software based way to do it perhaps? I saw a paid for app, but wasn't sure if it was dodgy or not. Forget the name now.

Plex works great, they have a app you will DL on you samsung tv and a server to DL on your mac, costs a few bucks but worth it.
