FYI as of 2 weeks ago you can purchase Apple Care + online after you buy a phone if you did not purchase it at the time you purchased the phone.
No need to go to a store or call in anymore.
So for example, I went to an AT&T store today, and picked up a new iPhone 7 for my mom. I am going to activate and set it up next Saturday. Once activated, I will just go to https://checkcoverage.apple.com and buy Apple Care +
