Easy program to rip DVDs or Video CD?

Trying to help my dad out here from across the country. He is trying to rip files from what appears to be a video CD, the file structure looks just a like a DVD though. I usually use mac the ripper and convert in handbrake, but that is a little over my dad's head and and mac the ripper won't work in Lion since its PPC. Is there a good (preferably free) DVD ripper out there that will convert directly to quicktime?

It's no less complicated than other stuff, and there's handy presets.

I replaced mac the ripper with RipIt when Lion came out. It works even better, but it isn't free.

Handbrake is just fine Even has presets for whatever he needs it for
