I have 500 mp3's I want to transfer to a limited capacity MP3 player and I need to encode them at a lower bit rate to get them to fit on it.

Is there a utility that will let me do this? Ideally I'd just point it at a folder with the files and tell it what new bit rate I want. I dont even know what rate I need so I will need to experiment a few times probably. I'm sure I could do it in in 3 or 4 steps with iTunes per conversion, but that always insists on sucking anything you show it into the iTunes library even if it doesn't import the files, so I want to stay away from that if I can.

p.s. I know I'll lose quality twice doing this (lower bit rate & conversion) but this is a phone I'm importing to and its just for listening on the train, so hifi isn't the order of the day in this case :)

You're welcome. I usually use it to convert annoying FLAC files to MP3! Great little utility to have around. supports loads of odd formats and it's FREE!

...ahh ... spoke too soon 'the application max quit unexpectedly' :-(

... got about 50 tracks in and died, died again after another 2 or 3 tracks and then again .

Any more ideas?

UPDATE; After the 3rd or 4th try straight through no problems.
