Easy way to reduce video file size?

I have a handful of HD videos taken over the course of a few vacations that I very rarely watch. Is there an easy way for me to reduce the video file size? I'm okay with losing some quality, as long as they're still viewable. I have tried using iMovie to change the resolution of the video but that actually added to the size, even with the lowest quality selected.

Any tips are appreciated!
