If my ecg app stopped working could running it under water fix it? It’s a series 6. I just get a message to keep holding the crown.

Have you cleaned the watch? Particularly the crown and the metal sensors underneath. If not, give them a clean with alcohol wipes.

Yes heart rate reading works. It’s just the ecg. I keep getting a message to keep my finger on the crown. Apple website mentions running it under warm water?

Does the crown move easily or is it stuck? While you certainly can rinse it under water to get the crown unstuck, it should not be necessary for ECG as that needs a clean crown too, so cleaning with an alcohol wipe should also do.
If that doesn't work, don't really know, a call to Apple support might be in order.

Yes the crown moves. I’ve tried cleaning it with a wet wipe. I thought rinsing under water might remove any dust that might be affecting the electrical contact?

Sure, give it a rinse, but afaik the contact is the surface of the crown only and if you wiped that already...
Rinsing under water doesn't hurt the watch, I've been wearing my watches in the shower for years with no issues.

But as I said, I'd this doesn't work, contact Apple support. Technology can break ...

So there can be no contact issue behind the crown?

I tried running it under warm water and the issue persists :(
So that suggests there is nothing on the outside "wrong", contact Apple support and see what they have to say.
If you have AC+ they should replace it. Apple doesn't "repair" watches, they give you a refurb.
