I have been the proud owner of a macbook running mac os x 10.5.8 for the past week and tried to setup the eclipse IDE. Downloaded the eclipse JEE for mac carbon from the website. The exact filename was

eclipse-jee-galileo-SR1-macosx-carbon.tar.gz

After extracting the entire folder to my applications, I opened it to run eclipse.app but get an error message saying

" The eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion launcher jar"

I thought something was wrong with my JDK so i downloaded the latest one available for mac os x- Java JDK 5 update 4 and installed but to no avail.

Am i doing something wrong? How do i get eclipse to run?

I extracted the tar.gz straight to my applications folder so the entire contents with plugins, configuration, features etc. folders are available in the applications directory.
