Ecovacs today announced the launch of its new flagship robot vacuum, the X9 Pro Omni. The robot is able to vacuum and mop floors, and it includes HomeKit integration so it can be controlled using Siri and the Home app.

The X9 Pro Omni is a sensor-laden cleaning bot that can vacuum and mop floors throughout the home, while also using AI to navigate obstacles like pets, items on the floor, furniture, and more. The bot is able to map an entire home with its 3D sensors, detecting walls and using a moving mop and side brush to get debris out of corners and along walls.

Like the prior-generation X8 Pro Omni, the new X9 model features Ecovacs' standout mopping feature, the Ozmo Roller Mop that self washes as it cleans, so that dirty water isn't spread over the floor. The X9 Pro Omni has separate clean and dirty water tanks in the robot itself, which is a unique cleaning feature, plus the mopping brush offers more downward pressure than traditional mop heads for a better clean. The mop is able to lift when the robot encounters carpets, so water does not get on rugs or carpeted areas, and it has hot air drying when cleaning is finished.

As for vacuuming, the X9 Pro Omni uses what Ecovacs calls "Blast" technology, with a 100W high-torque motor and optimized airflow path for better, quieter suction. There is a ZeroTangle brush for pet and human hair that does not get clogged up, cutting down on maintenance.

The X9 Pro Omni refills itself at a base station equipped with clean water, a dust bag, cleaning fluid, and a dirty water reservoir, and all of its functions are controlled via the Ecovacs iPhone app. There are a range of cleaning modes, from just vacuuming to a deep clean, and there are options for using the robot as a home camera that can move from room to room.

The X9 Pro Omni is one of a handful of robot vacuums that offers Matter integration, and with Matter, it is able to connect to HomeKit. As of iOS 18.4, Apple's Home app has supported robot vacuums, which means you can ask Siri to vacuum or mop your house. Siri can be used for an overall cleaning, or you can ask Siri to clean specific rooms. The Home app is also available, as is the Ecovacs app.

The X9 Pro Omni can be purchased from the Ecovacs website for $1,300, which includes a limited time $300 discount to celebrate the launch. We'll have a review of the new robot coming in the next few weeks.

1300$? Wow I am completely amazed about how ignorant I am about this robot price. Is it expensive? Maybe it’s cheap?

I am not ready to evaluate it’s price, totally unguarded. I need more info.

This vacuum does not work with HomeKit, nor does any other vacuum. HomeKit does not support vacuums.

This vacuum works with Matter. Matter is not the same thing as HomeKit.

Matter works with the Apple Home app, which means this vacuum also works with the Apple Home app.

Seems like every other week there’s a new robot vacuum hitting the market. Maybe I’m the odd man out, but I always thought they were a niche gimmick. I had three dogs that shed like it was their job, and even cordless vacuums eventually tapped out from the abuse. The only thing that’s ever kept up is my Kirby—it’s built like a tank. I just don’t see how one of those little rolling discs could last more than a couple weeks in a real-world mess, but maybe I’m wrong. 🤷‍♂️

Ouch at that price for HomeKit integration. I just got me a Roborock Qrevo Pro for $500 that basically has the same features and has done a phenomenal job replacing my aging Roborock S5.

Even at the price I paid for, while the machines do a great job even with pets, they are a bit outside of the price range for most families.

at $1300, that is a Musk rather than a Must buy 😊

I own 2 golden retrievers - vacuuming is a daily routine.

Would really like to know how well these robots handle the balls of love that accumulate like snow! But at that price, I want it to brush my dogs too!!

I have only one dog and he doesn't shed much. for me, my robot vacuum cleaner is perfectly fine. that said, I do tell people about the limitations: it won't replace your normal vacuum, there are places these can't be sufficient. they require maintenance (tank, brushes, clear path etc). one other limitation is if you have thin rugs. they get pushed by the robot instead of it easily going over the rug.
with all that said, I still like mine. It cleans the dog hair for me a lot more frequently than I care to vacuum. damn chore!

Roborock is the widely considered to be better and it offers several models that have Matter support (Apple Home compatibility). And it is cheaper to boot.

I have an iRobot. It was $600, 5 years ago, which was embarrassing. It’s pretty awesome having your house vacuumed while at the movies or doing anything other than vacuuming.

$1,300 - after a $300 discount - seems bonkers. Then again, one man’s $1,300 is another man’s $13.

Practical question: I've got a piece of furniture with short legs (just 9 centimeters). Will it handle it, or is it going to turn into a dust colony down there?

I though EvoVac had two primary series of robots, the T (T8 etc) ones and the higher-end X (X8 etc) and the X series was having so many issues w/ robot and app that they gave up on it and started coming up with fancier Ts past year or so. Hence it is surprising to see this X one.

They have horrible customer service in Germany who offer shrugs instead of replacement parts or any other kind of service or information. The app functionalities vary greatly between models and so does the reliability. I will definitely be choosing a different brand when selecting my replacement.

Matter devices talk to a Homekit hub, Homekit makes the device available in the Home App. Matter is a program and standard, it's not a different path to Apple Home.

You need to run them more often, maybe once every two days. It will keep up.

I have three robots (various brands) and once you've tried them, there is no going back. Would be interested in the mopping performance of this one. I tried a few and settled on a $350 model that does a great job of mopping tiles.
