Well... just looking around I came across this article on Cnet and found it pretty interesting. Apparently Nokia has come up with some software that they say can double the speed of EDGE.

On average iPhone users report that they can get download speeds of 210 kbps. Nokia Siemens says that with a simple software upgrade to the EDGE network equipment, operators, like AT&T, can offer their customers download speeds of 592 kilobits per second.

Should be ready in 3rd quarter of 2008

Somebody commented b4 and said that this will not work with current phones. Phones that will be able to use this faster edge wont be out untill 2009... atleast thats why they said so you might wanna look into it more before getting all excited.

I'm not getting all excited. I was just posting something that some people (ie: current iPhone users) would find interesting. Personally I am waiting until the 3G iPhone comes out.

Speculation is never a bad thing (is it?? :-\ )

Edit: The article makes it sound like its just the network equipment that needs the software (excluding phones)... but I may be wrong.... you never know. :-\
