Editing Audio clips in FCE - adjusting volume

Sometimes when I call a clip into the Viewer and attempt to set a point on the waveform at which to alter the gain (volume) I cannot do this. Normally I click on the volume slider and a point appears on the graphic which I can then move up or down. How come I can't always do this in all my clips?

If there are no other keyframes on the clip, adjusting the gain volume will affect the entire clip without adding a keyframe. If you plan to adjust the clip to different levels within the duration of the clip, you should first set a keyframe. For more details, look up "keyframes" in the Help files.
