editing avi/mpg in imovie - doesn't read the audio(wav)

Hi guys,

im a new switcher (macs rule!!!! ) and when i was importing an mpg or avi into imovie so i can edit em, the video works but the audio doesn't. The audio is suppose to be a wav for both types of formats.

I remember reading that imovie only supports aiff's and mp3's for its audio formats but I'm not sure....

How can I make it work where I can edit my videos as well as its audio?
