Hi,

I have a PDF file which loses its search functionality if I highlight , underline some parts of it.

Do you know what might be the reason?

i am having the same problem. any fix?
Same here.. Send a bug report to Apple here:

Here's a template:

PDF search functionality lost after editing in Preview

Dear Sir/Madam,

When editing a PDF document in Preview to underline or highlight specific parts of the text, after saving the PDF, the search functionality in that PDF is lost.

Kind regards,
***Your Name Here***

Still the same problem in 10.6.3.

If you annotate and then save the document, the search functionality is lost.
Definitely working here..

Screenshot shows a previously annotated PDF, opened and searched:

I did a combo update, maybe that made a difference..

After some more testing, it seems that the problem only exists in non-english files.

For files written in English, search works even after annotating and saving.

For files in other languages, after annotating and saving (and maybe closing and reopening the document), the search functionality is lost.

:(

Search is searching highlighted text

am using OSX 10.8.3

It seems to me that when I highlight text in a pdf, searches are constrained to the text I have highlighted. I need to have View-->Highlights and Notes selected and the search terms are highlighted in that panel.

If I remove all highlighting search behaves normally, searching all text.

To workaround I have created a duplicate of the document for highlighting and notes and reserve non-annotated version for search (and other) purposes.

Quite useful to constrain search to the highlights and notes but it would be nice to choose this or all.
