Editing Safari Resources

I attempted to edit Safari's back button by editing the "Back.tif" image in Safari>Show Package Contents>Contents>Resources but the changes I make to the image are not reflected when I launch the Safari application.

Any ideas as to why it would not work?

Because Leopard Safari does not use back.tif. It will have changed on Tiger, though.
