Editing "show all images" I have over 50,000 images ??? Most are multiples.

Help (bet you have heard that before). I have a Mac G4, digital audio, O.S. 10.5.4. I want to edit the "all images" command that summons ALL the images in my Mac. Says there are over 50,00 images. I have had various downloads disappear from the desktop and I would like to find them. I have a large hard drive (500 gigs) and I feel that the down loads are in the hard drive, just misplaced. What can I do?
