i need help figuring out how to edit the volume of an .mp3 file. im aware that you can edit the volume via itunes, but this does not help being that after i lower the volume i need to convert it to .caf

if converting the .mp3 is required before editing the file please inform me, im able to do any conversion. i just need to know how to make the volume stay!

mp3 is compressed audio format. Better to convert it to uncompressed like .caf and then edit the volume using Audacity (free), Garageband, Logic, or any audio editor. Then convert it back to caf.

I think Audacity may let you edit compressed formats directly - so this will be easier to do.
