Ok since I had such a positive response on here with a sharing question I posted before, I thought I would share how I got Google Chrome to stop keeping my history etc.

WHAT I WANTED: I wanted Chrome to behave like Firefox, basically using cookies and stored passwords, but I did not want the address bar displaying my recently visited sites, as well as items from my history.

As any chrome user knows, there is no way to default tell Chrome to not record history without going into incognito mode. Cool, but I would like to keep cookies, stored passwords and stuff when I browse. I just dont want my address bar cluttered with anything that is not a suggestion from favorites.

There were several workarounds out there for windows, but after a lot of googling, I couldnt find anything for Mac.

WHAT I DID: under \usr\library\application support\google\chrome\default, there are several things in there that make the guts of chrome work. It is also where your history, cookies & everything is stored. If you right click>get info > "locked" the following files, Chrome will no longer store your history in the address bar. It will function much like firefox does, just displaying favorites there, while preserving cookie, saved form data as well as saved passwords.

The file list (some of these may be able to be "unlocked" again, I will edit as I continue to play with it):
Archived History
**anything starting with** History
Shortcuts
Top Sites
Visited Links
Web Data
