EDU Purchasing/Registration

I was wondering if I could get some advice here.

I am buying a MBP 15" 2.2 Matte w/160gb 5400 rpm drive in the next day or so.

I could buy it using an EDU discount through my sister or through my companys Apple Employee Purchase program. What I want to know is this:

If I buy the computer through the EDU discount so I can get the nano deal(which I'm actually gonna give my sister for her birthday) will I have a problem getting the rebate if I register the computer online to my Apple ID? Or the basic question is:

Even if ordered under her Apple account to her, can I register the computer to myself(and I plan on getting AppleCare in the next year too).

The $$$ difference between edu and my compnay discount is minimal(like 40) but I'd like to get the Nano for her.

If somebody has any info on this it would be appreciated.

I know of someone who gave their friend their password to their Apple account, and his friend logged into it from his university's network and ordered the machine for him.

This worked in the UK, so I would assume it would be the same in the US.
