Hello,

I bought a Macbook Pro in March and now I'm planning to buy a Macbook in 2 days. Can I use the educational discount again? Can I count it as a new academic year?
Has anyone bought 2 notebooks with the discount?
I want to use the back to school promotion so it's important that they don't deny me the rebate!!

Thanks all!!!

Some people consider June as start of academic year??...

I don't think so.. when you hit the EDU site, you're made to "accept" the agreement on how much you can buy in a calendar year, IIRC.

Ah, "Academic School Year". I don't know. Personally, I wouldn't consider it to be a new Academic School Year until school was about to start for the 08-09 year, so August.

Who is Eligible To Purchase
The following education individuals are eligible to purchase through the Apple Store for Education individuals:

Faculty or staff member of a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States
Student currently attending or accepted into a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States
Parent purchasing on behalf of their child who is a student currently attending or accepted into public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States
Purchase Quantity
Faculty, Staff and Students purchasing from the Apple Store for Education Individuals will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of product per academic school year:

Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Display: A maximum of two (2) may be purchased per academic year
Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per academic year
Apple TV: There is no limit on the quantity of Apple TV purchases per academic year
iPod: There is no limit on the quantity of iPod purchases per academic year
The above purchases can be made either online, through an Apple Retail Store, or through your Apple Authorized Campus Store. Total product quantities remain the same regardless of where your purchase is made. The Apple Software purchases above are only available through the online Apple Store for Education or through your Apple Authorized Campus Store.

Statement of Eligibility
I represent that I am a member of one of the defined groups above, eligible to purchase and that the products being purchased direct from Apple Inc. are for the personal, education, and/or research use of a student, faculty, or staff member.

I think you're allowed two computer purchases per year anyway.
Edit: but not of the same type (i.e. not two notebooks)

In that case I could use my boyfriend's discount, he hasn't bought any computer yet. So could I use his name but my credit card??

I just contacted Apple rep. and she tells me that it goes August till June. So Educational discounts do not count during July. Keep that in mind, its approaching soon.

my girlfriend used my edu discount last summer, so they don't care who it is! (at least at the store, not sure about online)

Yeah, it seems loose at the physical stores. I called Minnesota/Southdale (because I live less than 10 miles away from it :D) and the Apple rep on the phone was like "yeah, just bring in an acceptance letter, or any proof that you are enrolled at the school... an ID would be nice, but not required."

I wish Apple would give highschool students discounts. My friends get the discounts through our college and PSEO friends (like Seniors going to U of M, etc) all the time anyway.

I have to buy it this friday anyway!

I asked this same question to the manager at my local Apple store and they told me that it really doesn't matter. Those guidelines usually don't get flagged unless you are really abusing them. The manager told me they allowed a girl earlier in the day to purchase 2 Macbooks with the education discount with no problems.

So it should work as they don't really condone your business. :)

As long as you aren't buying 50 at a time, I think you'll be fine.

If you think about it, families can have more than 1 sibling going to college at once so it only makes sense that they would allow a few over the "rules" per year.

That no July thing sounds fishy. Also, when i was in store, the Apple employees said that they don't bother with those limit restrictions on the edu discount so it may work for you as well.
