I am thinking about getting a Macbook in the next few months, and I was wondering if anybody knew if the educational discount is more in store vs online. I had read somewhere that if you verify it in store the discount would be more, but I wanted to verify it.

I doubt if they're different.

I just bought a new MBP today with my education discount in a brick-and-mortar store (I was feeling impatient) and the discounts are identical to the online store.

In the US it is the same. In the UK there are a variety of plans, some of which require buying from your university. Since you don't say where you are, I thought it was worth a mention.

Interesting thread. In my case, the macbook pros are all $100 cheaper on my wifes college apple store site vs. apples standard educational site.
Also, just noticed the macpro is $200 cheaper $2100 vs. $2299

I just purchased a macbook this evening (first post on it-yea!) and it was cheaper in store. I don't know if this was because of the sales tax in Orange County as opposed to the tax Apple charges on its website. :apple:

I know this may not help you, but my campus has an Apple Store. We get some pretty ridiculous discounts. For instance, Leopard for $69! I'm not sure how they've done it, but they can undercut the online store.

Same here. Leopard is $69, iwork '08 $39. :)

I'm also In the UK.

On the apple online store I get a 10% student discount. If I go into the shop, I get 13 or 14% (depending on the store).

Generally, institutions get lower prices than students or faculty. The campus stores may be able to leverage that a bit for their sales. I do know that campuses were the only place this time to get an ed discounted copy of OS 10.5.
