My Mac Pro (MacPro1,1) sticks to a EFI 32 bit so that I can't use the Snow Leopard 64 bit kernel.
I know that 64 applications can run (and actually do run) on top of the 32 bit kernel but I can't stand that Mac Book Pro owners are able to run the shiny new kernel while I don't.
Will Apple release an EFI update anytime soon?

As a MacPro1,1 owner, I would say this:

Don't hold your breath.

But if the whispers about 10.7 or 10.8 being 64-bit ONLY are true, then those of us with 32-bit EFIs will be left out as the G5s are now. Progress, maybe, but if the darned thing could be solved with a firmware flash, why the heck wouldn't Apple even consider it?

Dunno. JP

That wouldn't make them any money, and they've already got yours. Progress is just another word for pay us again.
