EFI firmware 1.0 won't update

i have been trying since release to get this to update. it downloads but won't update itself. when i manually try to install it i get to the manual instructions where we have to click the "shut down" button and nothing happens when i click it. the flashing just pauses when i click the button and then resumes after a second. i am running a 1.83 Core Duo macbook with 1gig of ram. i'm kind of at my wits end with what to do. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Could it already be updated? If you've restarted since you first tried installing it, then it may already be installed, so maybe check with System Profiler to ensure you have the correct version. If you don't, then unplug all peripherals (particularly USB and Firewire devices) before attempting the install again. Check this page for more.

see, i thought it could alrady be installed too, but everytime i run a software update its there waiting to be downloaded and installed. i'm just kinda confused.
