Is anyone else having this problem? The 1.4 software update appeared to work just fine. I tried to install the 2.1 EFI Firmware update...it downloads, asks for the Macbook to be plugged in, and then restarts and appears to install, but I never get the 'grey screen with the progress bar' when it restarts. It boots back into OSX, and the software update again asks me to install EFI Firmware update 2.1....

Any ideas?

Hmm, I have that same machine but I don't have that problem. Try resetting the firmware first then running the update.

I've tried about 7 times now (with power plugged in) and still no dice.

Installed fine for me. If enough people experience this then it will be addressed by Apple, otherwise you will have to use AppleCare.

Here the same! MBP 13" i7 with Intel SSD

Seems to be trying to install it after a reboot but there's only the grey screen with the status bar (empty) for some seconds. Tries 3 times or so and then it boots into OSX without installing...

do you have an SSD too xcvbn13???? I have an Agility 2 240gb...it does boot super quick after the 1.4 update. I don't know why that would affect it...

No, I haven't got SSD disk.

But my HDD is formatted as MBR not as GPT disk, with 5 partitions (2 OSXs + 3 NTFS)...

I wondering if it's not a formatted link issue because there are some EFI informations store into the disk...

Is your SSD is formatted as GPT disk, with the regular Apple layout ?

this might help you, i had the same problem, but with patience i was able to solve my problem...you see i was trying to install, then i gave up, waited a couple of hours while the computer was on sleep mode, then i re-tried and it worked with no problem...

Yeah - same here! 10hours later it works perfectly...

@omar: Thanks for the great help! :D

When the EFI update is done downloading and I restart my MBP, is the sleep indicator light supposed to flash rapidly and the machine make beeping noises? It stopped after about 2 seconds and then the apple screen appeared with the gray progress bar. Not sure if I should be worried about that. Nothing seems to be wrong after it was installed.
