eGPU for TB2 2015 rMBP?

Guys I feel like I need to get myself an eGPU for 3d modeling and games with my 2015 retina MBP. It has only the integrated graphics so the extra power will definitely be welcome.

I am getting one of the newer enclosures boxes, with TB3 support. However, what I must still decide is GTX 1070 vs 1080.

Can anyone tell me if it makes sense at all to go with the 1080 when my MBP is still limited by TB2? Or the TB2 cap won't affect the performance boost from the 1070 to 1080?
