I'm often doing graphical work and even though its not as power-hungry as video-editing I'd still like just a bit more power than what my MBP 2016 15" can give me.
I'm considering splashing out for a new Razer Core X Chroma, so I can also plug in the ethernet and then connect it to my LG Ultrafine 5K monitor.

However I've seen on communities that for some its been noisy or haven't worked that well. I'm not interested in spending time with messing around with drivers, so the question is if its worth it or the whole eGPU is still a bit premature? If relevant I'm considering adding a AMD Radeon Vll for it.

I think the BlackMagic one that Apple sells is the only one that'll work with the Ultrafine display. It's something to check out and confirm.

I bought a Razor Core X with a Radeon Vega 56 and it's been working very well for me in macOS and Windows.

Sonnet eGFX + AMD RX 580 was straightforward as well.

I recommend checking out the egpu.io site for tested configurations.

You might be able to save money by going with a cheaper egpu and using a Dell 5K.
