Hi

I know there are other threads and articles around the internet about eGPUs but to be honest I've never really found a straight answer to what I'm looking for.

I've got a 2016 15" MBP with a LG Ultrafine 5K and sometimes I also use my LG 4k as another screen.

I've started to try and edit some 4K video in Final Cut Pro X and I find it really quite slow at times, especially once I have used noise reduction for low light shots. I had hoped that this machine would be all I need but I've started to think I need something with more oomph.

Could an eGPU be the answer? And if so, what would be the best solution for FCP X? Don't particularly want to shell out for the iMac Pro when it comes out! Just want something that makes the whole experience less painful - don't mind waiting for renders etc but want it to be smooth when editing.

Cheers

No idea if those processes are GPU or CPU-intensive. If you go for an eGPU, I'd go for what Apple is currently supporting in their dev kit. So the Sonnet epgu box and a AMD 580 8GB graphics card.
