Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue.

I have a 2013 iMac running 10.9.5. It has always been a great, fast machine. I store all of my work files on external drives, and have never had a problem using the external drives with this machine.

I recently bought a 2008 iMac running El Capitan. This machine actually runs really great considering it's age. It has no problem running any Adobe CS6 apps, Final Cut, etc. My external drives also work like they should with this machine.

I cloned the 2008 iMac's hard drive to my 2013 iMac. Everything seems to work fine on the 2013 iMac, BUT using my external drives is now an EXTREMELY slow process. For example, if I click on a folder in one of the external drives, it can take minutes to display the contents of the folder. Once the files are displayed, if you click on a file it can take minutes to show a preview of the file. Sometimes the external drives don't respond at all. But they are always visible on the desktop.

It's so slow that I can't possibly use the drives with the 2013 iMac running El Capitan. So, my external drives are fast and work fine with the 2013 iMac running 10.9.5, the 2008 iMac running El Capitan, but NOT the 2013 iMac after I clone the 2008 to the 2013 machine.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and share your thoughts.
