I have upgraded my 2009 iMac to Sierra, but was having a few problems with my apps, and there was a UI bug. (if you saw my previous thread you know the issue) so I wanted to try El Capitan.

However, since I was on Sierra, I could not use the installer. So I put Snow Leopard back on the iMac. After doing all the updates and going to the El Capitan page in the Mac App Store, I click the "Get" button and it does nothing at all. Even when signed in, it does nothing. So I used Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks to attempt the download. They all failed, saying my Mac was not compatible with El Capitan. Of course this is false, as the late 2009 iMac goes up to High Sierra.

Anyone have a clue what to do? And please do respond if you have info, I am trying to get this Mac sorted out as quickly as possible.

Tried both. They say "We could not complete your purchase, This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer." Which is weird because the late 2009 iMac is supported fine.

Anyone have a solution? Still sitting here trying to figure this out. Strange thing is I can follow those links on my 2008 MacBook and they work fine
[doublepost=1555174339][/doublepost]Another piece of info, when I click the "Learn More" button, it tells me the system requirements for Mavericks, and says to download Yosemite. But there is no download.

I honestly don't get this at all. The same link works fine on all my other Macs, even older than this.

Download the El Capitan installer app using the 20" iMac Early 2008 or the 2008 MacBook. When the download is complete the "Install OS X El Capitan.app" will automatically launch. Quit the installer app at the first question, then copy the "Install OS X El Capitan.app" from the Applications folder to the Applications folder of the 2009 iMac.

Thanks, this worked. I thought the installer would only work with the Mac it was downloaded on, kind of like the restore discs.
