Hey there! I have three (3) 2 TB disks in a Probox USB 2.0 enclosure. I want to create a RAID array and plug it into an Airport Extreme to create an AirDisk.

El Capitan has removed the RAID configuration stuff from the GUI, but you can still create a RAID array using diskutil, like this:

diskutil appleRAID create stripe MyNewRaid JHFS+ disk3 disk4 disk5

However, when I do that, it creates a disk that the Airport Extreme does not recognize. And, actually, the Mac Disk Utility sees it differently than another RAID array I have plugged into my iMac - let's call this one my "original" RAID. Check out my original RAID array in Disk Utility:

You will note that Disk Utility calls it a "6 TB USB Extended Physical Disk" - and you can't see any of the four physical disks that actually make up the array.

Now check out my new RAID I created using the diskutil command in the Terminal:

It calls it a 6 TB RAID Set Volume OS X Extended. This particular RAID set was created using "concat" instead of the "stripe" or "mirror" option but no matter what, it doesn't create a RAID like my first RAID array I created using Disk Utility a few versions of OS X ago, and you can still see the individual component physical disks.

What do I need to do to create RAID array using the disktuil command such that it creates a RAID that behaves like my "original" RAID array?

Thanks so much for your help!
