Elegato Eye Tv Hybrid

I have a few questions about the Eyetv product before I purchase it. When connecting the tuner must it be connected to a tuner or cable box or can I connect it to the cable output in my wall. If I connect it to the cable output will any cable cord do or is there a specific one to be used?
