elementary q on garage band

hello,

i am considering buying my first ibook G4 but want to know more about garage band. i would like to use gb to record music lessons which go for about one hour each and eventually store them all as mp3 files on my machine, a total of about 400 hours. is it possible to do this with garage band and how? does gb retain original sound quality as well as a tape recorder?

alternatively, is it possible to digitally convert audio cassettes to mp3s on the ibook G4?

You'll need a decent quality microphone. After experimenting with the levels, you should get passable sound quality. I'm not sure, but the iBook's HD speeds may affect your recording with garageband. I'm pretty sure that I read this somewhere before. Can someone else elaborate?

As far as audio cassettes go: Yes you can. There are programs that do this for old vinyl, and I think that using it for a cassette would be trivial. I seem to recall a thread about this here....
